Maria Hofl-Riesch named Laureus Ambassador
November 8
Champion Alpine ski racer Maria Höfl-Riesch is the latest star of sport to become a Laureus Ambassador.
The announcement was made at the annual Laureus Media Prize evening in Austria. And the German-born superstar of the slopes was clearly eager to help spread the Laureus message as soon as she could.
Speaking at the Prize evening, Maria said: “I am delighted to be able to be able to support the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation in Germany. Social engagement is very dear to me, so I am proud to now be a part of the Laureus family and forward to getting involved.”
Still just 27 years old, Maria’s incredible career has spanned two decades and has already included world cup wins and two Olympic gold medals courtesy of the Vancouver Winter Games of 2010.
Always an exciting sportsperson to watch in action, Maria has truly helped populise her sport, thanks in part to her thrilling rivalry with fellow skier Lindsay Vonn, who happens to be one of her closest friends.
The Laureus Ambassadors are a committed group of sportspeople who volunteer their time to spread the sport for good message. Ambassadors support the Laureus Academy and frequently visit the young people of Laureus-supported projects, helping to inspire and bring joy to vulnerable children throughout the world.
