CoolPlay works within low- and no- fee schools in disadvantaged communities around the Western Cape. These communities are plagued with societal ills with crime and danger commonplace. This causes enormous stress for the children growing up in these environments, whose minds are in a state of fight of flight more frequently than if they were growing up in safe neighborhoods. It is incredibly difficult for a young mind to learn when in survival mode, so this creates gaps in learning. CoolPlay's mini-sport sessions takes place during the Life Orientation periods.
