Laureus and Foot Locker Foundation announce grantees for Community Empowerment Program
Twelve organizations in metropolitan areas across Europe and Canada to be supported by Community Empowerment Program
Laureus Sport for Good and Foot Locker, Inc., through the Foot Locker Foundation have announced the grantee recipients of their 2023-2024 multi-country initiative aimed at supporting underserved communities.
This year’s winning programs will serve an estimated 3,200 young people across Canada, the UK, and the Netherlands, bringing the two-year total youth served globally through the Community Empowerment Program, to 17,000.
The program was initially launched in the United States in 2021 with Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) as part of Foot Locker, Inc.’s Leading Education & Economic Development (LEED) initiative, a $200 million commitment to the Black community.
Through the second round of funding for the international program, developed in partnership with Laureus and offered in Canada and Europe, 12 community organizations have been awarded between USD 20,000 and USD 100,000 each to provide programming that advances health, wealth, and upward mobility in under-invested communities.

“At Foot Locker, we feel a responsibility to drive meaningful and lasting change across our company and the global communities we serve by empowering young people,” said Tai Neal, Vice President of Strategy for LEED.
“We use a multi-pronged approach anchored by our LEED initiative – our pledge to invest in, amplify, and empower the Black community which has played a pivotal role in shaping sneaker culture. With our partners at Laureus Sport for Good, we are thrilled to welcome this year’s Community Empowerment Grant winners who share our belief in the youth from underserved communities and have the passion and knowledge to help them develop to their full potential.”
“We are proud to partner with these twelve organizations through the Community Empowerment Program,” said Edwin Moses, Laureus Academy Member and track and field legend.
“At Laureus, we believe that sport has the power to change the lives of young people around the world, and leading that charge are local organizations like these, who understand the deepest needs of their youth and how to best serve and invest in their future.”
Laureus is a global charity that supports children and young people by using the sport as a tool to end violence, discrimination, and inequality.
