Laureus Ambassadors win gold at FINA championships
July 24, 2013
Two of the newest Laureus Ambassadors, synchronised swimming stars Daria Korobova and Anzhelika Timanina, have won the Team Technical Routine gold at the FINA World Championships in Barcelona.
Along with the other members of their team, Daria and Anzhelika scored a brilliant 96.600 points on their way to a fourth consecutive world title in the event. The silver and bronze medal positions were awarded to Ukraine and Spain respectively.
The win adds to the gold medal Daria and Anzhelika won as members of the Russian synchronised swimming team at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The two synchronised swimmers, who are both popular role models in Russia, were named Laureus Ambassadors earlier this year.
They had previously visited a Laureus-supported charity sports project in Russia to see the kind of work the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation undertakes around the world.
On joining the Laureus family, Daria said: “It is a great honour to be an Ambassador for an organisation like Laureus that uses sport to help young people. I really look forward to getting to work.”
Congratulations to both Daria and Anzhelika!
