Laureus Academy legend Nadia Comaneci has paid Tiger Woods the ultimate compliment by awarding him a ‘Perfect 10’ for his remarkable victory in The Masters.
“It’s just amazing. A historical moment. Perfect 10,” said Nadia, who herself stunned the sports world in the 1976 Montreal Olympics with the first ever perfect 10 in gymnastics.
Nadia led tributes from the Laureus Academy Members to Tiger, who just two months ago received the Laureus Comeback of the Year Award for his achievements in 2018!
Laureus Chairman Sean Fitzpatrick said: “It looks like we got that Award right. It’s difficult to overstate what Tiger achieved in Augusta. Two years ago we all wondered if he would ever get back on a golf course. Now he's The Master again. I have a hunch he’s going to have an amazing year.”
Kenyan athletics great Kip Keino said: “Perseverance is sometimes what separates true champions from the rest of the talent and Tiger has certainly exemplified what it takes to be a champion. Congratulations on an amazing comeback Tiger!”
And Marvelous Marvin Hagler, undisputed world heavyweight champion for eight years, spoke for many in sport when he said: “A true champion never gives up in good times and in bad times. Welcome back.”
It was Tiger’s 15th Major Championship victory which leaves him just three behind another golfing great, Laureus World Sports Academy Member Jack Nicklaus. Tiger is a three-time Laureus winner. He was Sportsman of the Year in 2000 and 2001 as well as winning the Comeback of the Year Award in February.
