A host of celebrities including hugely popular recording artist and singer-songwriter Ronan Keating, England and Manchester United footballing legend Sir Bobby Charlton, star of TV show Made in Chelsea Rosie Fortescue, TV chef Viscountess Weymouth and Tara Ferry, drummer from Rubber Kiss Goodbye, will be at HPC, The London Polo Club, Ham, next week to watch the 11th Laureus King Power Polo Cup.
Taking part will be many of the greatest polo players in the world, including David Stirling, Facundo Pieres and Juan Martin Nero. All will be there to raise funds for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Laureus Ambassador and world No.1 Adolfo Cambiaso, who was due to play, is waiting to see if he recovers in time after a fall in this week’s Queen’s Cup.
Also cheering the polo stars on will be Laureus Academy Members, including double Olympic 400m hurdles gold medallist Edwin Moses, Argentina’s greatest ever rugby player Hugo Porta and double Olympic decathlon champion Daley Thompson, plus Formula One aficionado Eddie Jordan, former Grand Prix driver Mark Blundell and DTM racer Gary Paffett.
The Laureus King Power Polo Cup features a match between a team sponsored by AMG, the performance brand of Mercedes-Benz, and a team representing the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Funds raised will go to the Fundación Laureus Argentina, which will be fed back into community sports-based projects in that country which use sport to improve young people’s lives.
Laureus Academy Member Hugo Porta, Chairman of the Fundación Laureus Argentina, commented: “This is a really important event for our Foundation, we’re lucky that the best polo players are here to support us and that so many people will be coming to enjoy what should be a splendid day.”
During the event, as well as a cuisine served up in the style of a traditional Argentine Asado, guests will enjoy a pop-up bar from famous Mayfair members club Annabel’s, hosted by Pernod Ricard.
