Siobhan Haughey announced as new Laureus Ambassador following launch of Laureus Sport for Good Hong Kong
Four-time Olympic medallist Siobhan Haughey announced as a new Laureus Ambassador. Haughey was introduced as the latest member of the Laureus movement by Academy Member Mike Horn at the Hong Kong Institute of Sport during a transformative week for Sport for Good in Hong Kong, China.
The announcement comes on a landmark week, following the launch of Laureus Sport for Good Hong Kong, a new office which builds on two decades of work in the region, and confirms Laureus’s long-standing commitment to using sport to improve the lives of young people throughout Hong Kong, China and beyond.
Haughey is the only Hong Kong athlete to have won four Olympic medals. In 2021 the swimmer took silver in both the 100 and 200 metre freestyle, and in Paris this summer she won bronze in the same events. She is joined in the Laureus family by Vivian Kong, the fencer who won gold in the individual épée and was announced as a Laureus Ambassador yesterday following a visit to Rugby For Good, a Laureus-supported programme based in Hong Kong.

In a big week for Laureus in Hong Kong, The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club staged the second annual Laureus Charity Golf Invitational Hong Kong.
Partners for the Invitational included IWC Schaffhausen and LimeTree Capital as patron partners, as well as golfing apparel specialists Peter Millar and G/Fore.
Following the Team Scramble event format, which included on-course competitions, guests enjoyed a gala dinner featuring a highly anticipated auction, all to raise funds for Laureus Sport for Good’s efforts in Hong Kong. Prizes included a limited-edition luxury timepiece from long-standing Laureus partner IWC Schaffhausen, invitations to play in exclusive golf tournaments and attendance at the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards.
Laureus Academy Members and Ambassadors old and new were joined there by Sport for Good stakeholders, partners and friends for some golf and to raise funds for Laureus Sport for Good Hong Kong – a new hub for the work supported by Laureus in the region. Among them were Laureus Academy Member and leading international explorer Mike Horn and Laureus Ambassador Annabelle Bond, the adventurer who in 2005 became the fastest woman to climb the Seven Summits. The event was MC’d by Laureus Ambassador Dan Nicholl.
Laureus’ work in Hong Kong, China and the wider region has at its centre the Model City Hong Kong initiative, a collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach to using sport to improve youth mental health and wellbeing in Hong Kong.

Laureus Ambassador Siobhan Haughey said: “I’m excited and honoured to join the Laureus movement and I can’t wait to make a real difference to the programmes we support here in Hong Kong. This place is unique and growing up in Hong Kong, sport was always at the centre of my world.
"Laureus Sport for Good understands that sport’s great power can and should extend way beyond elite athletics, and I want to be a part of a movement that will change the lives of young people no matter their circumstance or level of ability. That’s a power that can change the world, and there’s no better place to start than here in Hong Kong.”
Laureus Academy Member Mike Horn, said: “I am thrilled to welcome Siobhan to the Laureus movement as our newest Ambassador. Her performances in the pool at the past two Olympics inspired all of us and now she joins this team that aims to inspire and lead the next generation of young people, using the power of sport. Here in Hong Kong that work includes addressing a mental health crisis among young people and we know that sport can be an invaluable resource in that fight.
“I’ve been honoured to be part of the Laureus Academy for two decades, and it’s always a privilege to be here in Hong Kong, somewhere Laureus has been delivering Sport for Good programming for the last 20 years. Yesterday, we launched Laureus Sport for Good Hong Kong, and today, funds were raised to drive our work going forward."

It’s been a special few days, and I’m excited for what the future holds, with inspirational new Laureus Ambassadors Vivian Kong and Siobhan Haughey supporting us.
Laureus Academy Member Li Xiaopeng, said: “I want to congratulate Siobhan on becoming a Laureus Ambassador and welcome her to our special team of Laureus athletes. Her performances in the last two Olympics made the whole of Hong Kong proud and now she will continue to inspire and help young people here through this rewarding and important work.
“Today’s event at Clearwater Bay has already become an important part of that work and I want to thank our friends and partners who joined us here to have fun, connect and raise funds that will make a direct and lasting impact on the young people in our communities. Just imagine what we can achieve before we all meet up here again, next year.”

Laureus Ambassador Annabelle Bond, said: “The arrival of Siobhan and yesterday Vivian Kong to the Laureus movement illustrates our long-standing commitment to Sport for Good here in Hong Kong, China. The work we do with our valued partners here not only benefits the hundreds of children and young people who attend our programmes in Hong Kong, it is also absolutely vital to our progress in the wider region and globally. That is only possible due to the coalition of stakeholders now in place here, and the commitment and leadership of our Ambassadors in Hong Kong – a group which now includes Siobhan and Vivian.
“It was wonderful to see so many of those partners and friends together for a second time at the Laureus Golf Invitational at Clearwater Bay. It’s such a spectacular setting and while playing golf on one of the most beautiful courses in the world doesn’t feel like ‘work’, be in no doubt – the partnerships and funding we generate through this event are the fuel for programmes we support here that are changing lives.
Peter Downie, GM and Director of Golf at The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club, said: “Last year we hosted the first Laureus Golf Invitational, and we are delighted that this event is returning for a second year. It’s an honour for us to host a truly unique event for the golfers, a wonderful gala dinner and a fundraising auction that will leave a lasting impact on young people here in Hong Kong. Everyone at Clearwater Bay believes in the great work that Laureus delivers in our communities, and we are so proud to be a part of this project.”
Vivian Kong and Siobhan Haughey join a rich list of local Laureus Ambassadors in Hong Kong, through Laureus’ longstanding partnership with the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association (HKEAA). Representing HKEAA at the Invitational were local Laureus Ambassadors; Amy Chan, Lee Ka Man and Vivian Lee.
Laureus Sport for Good has been actively engaged in Hong Kong since 2005, supporting programmes that use the power of sport to change the world. That change has been possible in part through the support of, and collaborations with, valuable partners such as Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR), the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, Hong Kong Jockey Club, Hong Kong Football Club, AIA, Swire and Park Lane Hong Kong.
