Sporting greats join forces to raise funds at Laureus Golf Day
BUENOS AIRES, January 6, 2012 – Sports stars including some of Argentina’s greatest names of golf came together last month to fundraise for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation in Argentina.
Attended by major sports figures such as Argentina golf greats Eduardo Romero and Ricardo Gonzalez, the second edition of the Laureus Golf Day raised funds that will go toward supporting sports opportunities for young people throughout the country. The event was presented by Laureus Global Partners Mercedes-Benz and IWC Schaffhausen.
The exclusive tournament took place at Jack Nicklaus´ signature course at the Nordelta Golf Club and was hosted by rugby legend Hugo Porta, Chairman of Fundacion Laureus Argentina and Laureus Academy Member.
The tournament, won by polo superstars Facundo and Nicolas Pieres, was followed by an auction of exclusive items specially donated to raise further funds for the Foundation.
Also on offer as special prizes to the contestants were a Smart car for anyone who could hit a hole-in-one courtesy of Mercedes-Benz Argentina, and a stainless steel Aquatimer Chronograph watch for the Best Approach on the 12th Hole donated by IWC Schaffhausen.
Nobody managed to hit a hole-in-one, but the best approach prize was won by Federico Camerlinckx of sports network ESPN.
Also taking part on the day were Laureus Ambassadors Alejandra Garcia Flood, Eduardo Heguy, Nicolas Fernandez Miranda and Juan de la Cruz Fernandez Miranda.
With the funds raised, Fundacion Laureus Argentina will continue to work promoting and supporting the use of sport as a tool for social change and helping the development of children and young people most at risk in Argentina.
Expressing his gratitude for those who attended and supported the event, Hugo Porta said: "This event allows us to continue with our activities. Every peso raised goes to brighten the smile of a child. I am very grateful to the companies and friends who have made this event possible."
