Steve Redgrave to coach Laureus fund-raisers for Oxford Half Marathon
A team of Laureus fund-raisers will have the experience of a lifetime next month when Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave gives them a unique training clinic ahead of the Oxford Half Marathon.
Laureus World Sports Academy Member Sir Steve, who won five gold medals in consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2000, said: “I am delighted to do what I can to help the Laureus team of runners prepare for their big challenge in the Oxford Half Marathon. I look forward to coming along and meeting the team who are all stepping up to the plate and raising funds to help young people facing harsh social challenges.
“Although I am not a runner, I understand long distance running is as much about mental approach as physical, so I hope I will be able to help in some way by passing on a few tips. The day however is about them, the team, and I am looking forward to meeting some inspirational people, who have put others before themselves by taking up this challenge. Well done to everyone.”
The Oxford Half Marathon, on October 12, is part of the Vitality Run Series, for which Laureus is the Official Charity Partner.
Funds raised by Laureus team runners taking part in the Vitality Run Series, which includes six half marathons between now and the end of March, will go towards training 1,000 sports coaches who will work with 100,000 young people across the across the UK, using the power of sport to change their lives.
