Laureus celebrates International Sports Press Association (AIPS) centennial in Paris
In the middle of an incredible Olympic Games, Laureus joined our friends at the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) and our partners UNESCO to celebrate the importance of quality journalism, the contribution it and sport make to cultural life across the world, and to mark the AIPS' 100th anniversary with its Executive Board and President, Gianni Merlo.
The event at UNESCO House in Paris was a great opportunity to bring together Members of the Laureus World Sports Academy with other sporting heroes to join, and celebrate with, journalists who bring sport to life and who watch and follow all the action and stories on and off the track, pitch or pool.
Laureus Academy Chairman Sean Fitzpatrick celebrated the long-standing partnership between Laureus and AIPS with other Members of the Academy in Paris. A rapturous reception greeted Nadia Comăneci, Seb Coe, Nawal El Moutawakel, Daley Thompson, Tegla Loroupe, Kip Keino, Edwin Moses, Chris Hoy, Tanni Grey-Thompson and Nicol David. It was also great to see be joined by old friends including Sergey Bubka, Donna De Varona and Charmaine Crooks as well as Gabriela Ramos of UNESCO, the French Minister for Sport and the Olympic & Paralympic Games, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra. Thanks to Marc Maury for presenting the event with his usual professionalism.
