At the start of the 2001-02 season in October, Jordan stunned the sporting world by returning from retirement with the lowly Washington Wizards at the age of 38. After scoring 41 points in a pre-season friendly, began the major league season with 19 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals in 37 minutes against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
In six of his first 10 games, he scored 30 points or more, with a best tally of 44 against Utah Jazz in November. Celebrated being voted to his 13th All-Star game by scoring 41 points as he led the Wizards to a 112-102 victory over the Phoenix Suns in January – his fifth 40-point game of the season. On January 31, produced the winning jumper on the buzzer to give the Wizards a 93-92 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers, their third win in four games. Jordan was definitely back.
