Ben Curtis upstaged the greats of the game like Tiger Woods and Ernie Els to win the British Open Championship at Royal St. George’s in his very first major championship. Curtis, who had a career as a top amateur, was ranked 396th in the world when he teed up at Royal St. George’s in July having played only 13 tournaments in his first year on the US Tour. He was voted Rookie of the Year by his fellow US Tour professionals for his achievement.
