Sweden's legendary shooter Jonas Jacobsson continued his remarkable success in the Paralympic Games winning four gold medals in Athens to take his career total to 13 Paralympic golds since he first attended the Games in 1980.
He also established two new world and Paralympic records and equalled two more.
Jacobsson, 39, was competing in his seventh Paralympic Games after staying competitive at international level for over two decades. Among his impressive medal collections are 22 Paralympic medals: 13 gold, one silver and eight bronze. With 14 world and Paralympic records to his credit, Jacobsson is one of the most successful Paralympians ever. He also won 11 World Championship gold medals from 1979 to 2003.
In the Swedish Cup in Sävsjö in January 2005, a fully integrated competition with able-body shooters from ten nations, Jonas won one of the competition days, where he beat American Olympic gold medallist Matt Emmons.
Born with a disability in lower limbs which means he has to use a wheelchair, Jacobsson started shooting at the age of seven, encouraged by his parents and two brothers who are also shooters. Participating in various championships around the world has given him many positive experiences. “To be good at something strengthens self-confidence, but it is important to have a humble attitude at the same time", says Jonas.
