The Los Angeles Lakers beat arch-rivals Boston Celtics in the final for their 16th NBA title in 2010, which left them just one behind the Celtics’ record of 17 wins. The two teams' 33 championships account for more than half of the 64 championships in NBA history.
The Lakers finished the season with 57 wins, then beat Oklahoma City Thunder, Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns in the play-offs, before meeting Boston Celtics in the final. Lakers rallied from a 3-2 series disadvantage and from 13 points down in the seventh and deciding game to beat Boston 4-3. Kobe Bryant won the Most Valuable Player award for the second year. The Lakers became the first team to retain their title since they previously achieved the feat in 2002.
