Jamaica’s Yohan Blake, at 21, won the 100 metres gold medal in the World Championships in Daegu after favourite Usain Bolt was disqualified for a false start. Blake also won gold as a member of the Jamaican 4 x 100 metres relay team, which included Bolt, in a world record 37.04 secs.
After Daegu, he ran a personal best of 9.82 secs to win the 100 metres in the Zurich Diamond League meeting, which he followed in September in Brussels with the second fastest 200 metres of all time in 19.26 secs. He is tied with Seun Ogunkoya as the youngest to have broken ten seconds in the 100 metres, at 19 years 197 days.
