British golfer Justin Rose finally won his first Major Championship at the age of 32 - the US Open at Merion – beating Jason Day and Phil Mickelson by two strokes. His victory made him the first English player to win a Major since Nick Faldo in 1996 and the first to win the US Open since Tony Jacklin in 1970. In an excellent year, he rose to a career high world No 3 ranking after finishing second in the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.
