Nelson Mandella

25 Years of Laureus

At 21, he became the youngest rider in a century to win the Tour de France, and he did it in amazing fashion. In a stunning turnround in the time trial on the penultimate day, he overhauled the 57-second lead of Primoz Roglic, who had led since Stage Nine, to win. It was one of the most unexpected climaxes in the race’s long history.

I am very happy to have been nominated for the Laureus Breakthrough Award. These incredible days at the Tour de France will stay with me forever and I am truly grateful that the world's media voted for me.
