Victory in the Giant Slalom in Courchevel in December ended an emotionally devastating year for the three-time Overall World Cup winner and double Olympic champion. She had taken a month away from the slopes in February following the death of her father, who had handled all her affairs. Her grandmother had also died in October 2019. After her comeback win, she said 2020 had been like “grasping for air with waves crashing over me and my whole family”.
