‘Sport has the power to change the world’ – Nelson Mandela, 2000 Laureus World Sports Awards

The triple world champion had won every title in Para triathlon except one. This all changed in Tokyo when she won gold in the triathlon PTVI, her first Paralympic medal. A three-time world champion (2012 and 2018 in TRI-6, 2019 in PTVI) and two-time European champion (2014 in PT5, 2019 in PTVI), Susana combines her sport with her work in medicine. She graduated in physiotherapy from Vigo in 2009 and in 2015 became a doctor, despite her visual impairment. An unassuming example of inclusion, Susana is recognised throughout Spain for her values and her sporting achievement. Her work as a doctor in the pandemic was acknowledged when she appeared on the front page of Time magazine in July.
