Chennai is home to nearly 6% of India’s homeless population, yet only one shelter exists in the entire city. Against this backdrop, Slum Soccer is tackling the root causes of poverty, giving young people life and vocational skills in order to break the cycle of deprivation. Expanding on a well-established base in Nagpur, Slum Soccer is taking on social issues which affect the entire state of Tamil Nadu and is working hard to develop a growing presence in Chennai. In Nagpur, Slum Soccer provides classes in maths and English as well as football, while in Chennai, football is used as the platform to teach life skills to participants.
