Fundación Rafa Nadal uses sport and education to empower over 1,000 vulnerable young people in Spain and India. It was founded in 2010 and focuses its work on the integration and social development of children and young people, using sport and education to provide equal opportunities and empower young people to realise their potential in life.
Rafael Nadal, the patron of the programme and himself a five-time winner in three different categories – Sportsman of the Year, Breakthrough of the Year and Comeback of the Year – was in Madrid to accept this Sport for Good honour, alongside Ana María Parera and María Francisca Perelló as president and director of Fundación Rafa Nadal
Speaking after the ceremony, Nadal spoke about the pride he feels for the Foundation and the work that it does.
“It’s a very familiar project, a personal one that we started 14 years ago, and it’s a thing that we’re super proud of,” the 22-time Grand Slam champion said.
“It’s a way to give back. It’s the moment to give a positive example to society that we need to help people that really need help. I grew up with positive values of being generous with others, being respectful and of course, helping.”
