Overcame a puncture while leading to successfully defend his Olympic cross-country title with an incredible comeback. The incident saw him slip down to ninth place, 39 seconds behind France’s Victor Koretzky, but, having changed wheels, he managed to regain contact and staged a daring overtake in trees on the last lap to win his second gold.
His victory meant he became only the second man to win back-to-back Olympic titles in the cyclo-cross discipline. Pidcock turned professional in 2021 and since then his biggest victories have included taking the cross-country titles at the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics, as well as the 2022 European Championship and the 2023 World Championship.
