Last year, de Bruijn was named best female swimmer at the world championships in Japan after winning three titles, matching her performance at last year's Sydney Olympics by completing the 50m and 100m freestyle double and also claiming victory in the 50m butterfly.
The triple Olympic champion could well have made it four titles if she had not chosen to drop out of the 100m butterfly to avoid a clash of events.
