The Women’s World Cup in China in 2007 will forever be associated with Marta, a supremely talented young star of the women's game. Although a member of the Brazil team which lost in the final to Germany, she received both the Golden Ball and Golden Shoe awards as China 2007's outstanding player and top goalscorer with seven.
Marta arrived in China with a host of accolades to her name. After being named FIFA Women's World Player in 2006, she followed up this year by helping Brazil to win a gold medal at the Pan-American Games in July, scoring twice in the final.
