Rated No 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world by the authoritative Ring magazine, Manny Pacquiao became the first boxer to win world titles in eight different weight divisions when he beat Mexico’s Antonio Margarito in Dallas in November to win the WBC super welterweight (or light middleweight) world title.
The 31-year-old from the Philippines won every round in a unanimous points victory. Earlier in March he had beaten New York-based Ghanaian Joshua Clottey to retain his WBO welterweight title
He was named ‘Fighter of the Decade’ for the 2000's by the Boxing Writers Association of America and he has been named Ring magazine Fighter of the Year in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
