Australia’s Tyler Wright won her first world surfing championship, at the age of 22, beating her main rival Courtney Conlogue. Wright, from Culburra in New South Wales, had suffered burn out as a teenager and came to hate the sport, however she persevered with the help and support of her family. The success came at the end of a difficult year for Wright, whose surfer brother Owen has been recovering from a serious brain injury he received while competing.
