Britain’s Nick Skelton, who broke his neck in two places in 2000, became the oldest British Olympic champion since 1908, at 58 years and 233 days, when he won the individual show jumping gold medal on Big Star in Rio de Janeiro. In his career Skelton has also broken shoulders and legs and had a hip replaced. It was Sketon’s seventh Olympic Games and he is the first British rider to win an individual show jumping gold medal for 44 years.
