Became the first unseeded woman in the Open Era to win Wimbledon, beating Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4. Her achievement came despite many years struggling with injuries. After her first WTA match in 2016, she was out for months with an elbow injury. Three years later she finished runner-up to Ash Barty at the French Open, but then needed wrist surgery. And, in 2022 she was at Wimbledon, but only as a visitor, because of another wrist injury which kept her out for six months. Despite this, over the years she has showed enormous resilience to keep going and eventually received her reward.
