Competing internationally for the first time since taking a two-year break from sport to focus on her mental health, Simone the multi-medal winning Olympic gymnast came back with confidence and style, winning four gold medals in the World Championship in October, including a record sixth all-around title.

She also became the first to land the Yurchenko double pike in competition. Already the most decorated gymnast of all-time, it took her Olympic and World Championship medals total to 37.

Earlier in the year she had won a record eighth US all-around title. Simone was winner of the Laureus Sportswoman of the Year Award in 2017, 2019 and 2020.
