The 25-year-old from Japan landed the best trick of the street competition at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games to pass Americans Jagger Eaton and Nyjah Huston to reach first place and secure back-to-back gold medals. While Huston and Eaton both fell as they performed their final tricks, Horigome soared, scoring 97.08 – the highest of the day – thanks to a dazzling final attempt.
He had been an enormously popular winner on home soil at the Tokyo Olympics, becoming the first person ever to win a gold in men's street skateboarding, and has also consistently featured on the podium at World Championships and the prestigious X Games since turning professional in 2017.
