‘Sport has the power to change the world’ – Nelson Mandela, 2000 Laureus World Sports Awards

Aged just 17, Summer McIntosh became the first Canadian woman to win multiple individual gold medals at a Summer Olympics, winning the 200 metre butterfly and 200 and 400m individual medleys and taking silver in the 400m freestyle, an achievement which prompted Time magazine to label it the ‘Summer of Summer’.

The multi-discipline world record holder soon followed up that spectacular success in Paris by picking up five medals at the 2024 World Swimming Championships in Budapest, including three golds, and was named female swimmer of the year by World Aquatics. She first attracted attention at the age of 14 when she became the youngest member of the 2020 Canadian Olympics team, finishing fourth in the 400m freestyle.
