Another prolific goalscoring year from FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi. In November, he scored his 76th goal in a calendar year to move ahead of the great Pelé, who scored 75 goals in 1958. A month later he reached 91 goals to overtake Gerd Muller’s record of 85 in 1972. In the 2011/12 season, he scored 73 goals and had 29 assists in all club competitions, breaking Muller’s season record of 67 which dates back to 1972/73. He was also leading scorer in the UEFA Champions League for the fourth year with 14 goals.
