In the 2022/23 season, he began a new career in the US by inspiring Inter Miami, part-owned by David Beckham, to an unbeaten 12-match run culminating in their Leagues Cup success. He scored his team’s goal in the 1-1 draw with Nashville in the final which led to penalties and a 10-9 Miami victory. It was Messi’s 44th trophy for club and country – beating former Barcelona team-mate Dani Alves. Although Miami missed the play-offs, Messi revitalised the team and fans are looking forward to 2024. In 2023, Messi also celebrated his 800th senior career goal for club and country, and his 100th international goal for Argentina in a 7-0 win against Curaçao.
