At the Rio Olympics, Elaine Thompson completed a famous sprint double when she won gold medals in the 100 metres, in a time of 10.71secs, and the 200 metres, in 21.78secs. She is the first female sprinter to achieve this feat since Florence Griffith Joyner at the Seoul Olympics in 1988. Thompson is a member of the Jamaican sprint relay team which won a silver medal in Rio, as well as a gold medal in the 2015 World Championships in Beijing.
