Overcame a deficit of 91 points, the largest comeback in MotoGP history, to become the first Italian world champion since Valentino Rossi. Bagnaia was the first riders’ champion for Ducati since Casey Stoner in 2007, becoming the first Italian to win the title on an Italian bike since Giacomo Agostini in 1972 and the first from the VR46 Academy to win a world title in the premier class. VR46 was set up by Rossi in 2014 to help nurture young Italian talent.
