‘Sport has the power to change the world’ – Nelson Mandela, 2000 Laureus World Sports Awards

His dominant win in September’s Aragon Grand Prix ended a victory drought stretching back to 2021. After winning six senior MotoGP world titles in seven years, he sustained an arm injury in 2020 that altered his career, undergoing four operations which sidelined him from racing for prolonged periods. Injury struggles coupled with a battle to regain top form prompted the Spaniard, now 31, to question whether his time in the sport was all but over. He followed the Aragon victory with two more in 2024, at the San Marino and Rimini Grand Prix in September and the Australian Grand Prix in October. He ended the season with 10 podiums and finished third in the World Championship standings.
