The Swiss star continued to dominate tennis in 2005 and early 2006 with three straight Grand Slam victories – Wimbledon, the US Open and the Australian Open. He also won nine other tournaments during 2005 – Doha, Rotterdam, Dubai, Indian Wells, Miami, Hamburg, Halle, Cincinnati and Bangkok, and opened 2006 by defending his title in Doha.
At Wimbledon in 2005 he defeated Andy Roddick 6-2, 7-6, 6-4 in a thrilling re-match of the 2004 final, committing just 12 unforced errors, while in the US Open final he fought back from a break down in the third set against Andre Agassi to win 6-3, 2-6, 7-6, 6-1. After the match Federer said it was "the best I've ever played."
In January 2006, Federer came from behind in the Australian Open final to beat unseeded Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis in four sets to become the first-ever player to win in his first seven Grand Slam finals. His career prize money is already over US$21 million.
Over the last two years Federer has become the undisputed dominant force in world tennis. He became the first Swiss to win Wimbledon in 2003, then in 2004 he became the first man since Mats Wilander in 1988 to win three out of four Grand Slam events in the same calendar year, winning the Australian Open, Wimbledon again and the US Open. He won 11 times in 2004, the best performance in almost 20 years.
