Won his seventh Formula One World Championship in 2020 to bring him level with Michael Schumacher. At the end of the year, he had amassed 95 Grand Prix wins, passing Schumacher’s record of 91, and had achieved 165 podium finishes and 98 pole positions. Once again his Mercedes AMG Petronas car was the best on the track. He is the current Laureus World Sportsman of the Year, a title he holds jointly with Lionel Messi.

It’s an honour to have been nominated for Sportsman of the Year alongside some truly incredible athletes. I was fortunate enough to be able to race and I’m so proud of what we, as a team, were able to achieve together. I’m even prouder of the journey we began towards making the motor sport industry more diverse and inclusive.
