Won gold medals in the 400 metres freestyle, 800m freestyle, 1,500m freestyle and 4x200m freestyle relay at the World Championships in Budapest. Her four golds took her World Championship career medal total to 22, passing Natalie Coughlin as the most successful female swimmer. A seven-time Olympic champion, she finished the year in style, breaking the short course 800m and 1,500m world records in the FINA Swimming World Cup.
