Spanish football fans went wild with delight when Spain triumphantly won their first ever FIFA World Cup in 2010.
Spain were also the current European Champions which confirmed their place at the summit of world football. One of the powerhouses of European football, it had been a mystery why they had not previously won the World Cup, but that was resolved in South Africa when they defeated a rugged Netherlands team 1-0 in the final with a winning goal by Andres Iniesta in extra time. It made them the first European team to win a World Cup outside its own continent.
