Novak Djokovic ended 2023 in possession of three of the four major titles in men’s tennis – and he only missed out on a Calendar Slam after a classic five-set Wimbledon final against Laureus Award winner Carlos Alcaraz. The stunning season saw the Serb move up to hold a record-equalling 24 Grand Slams and at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid he tied another all-time record, with his fifth Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award (2012, 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2024).
Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion and 2022 Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, presented Djokovic with his Laureus statuette and spoke about his friend’s greatness and determination, before Djokovic himself addressed the room.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion acknowledged all of the year’s Nominees and his fellow Award winners, before reflecting on the founding belief of Laureus and sport’s ability to change lives and unite people. Listen to his full speech below.
